I’m Jane Mutando. I’m a Community Activist in Nakivale Settlement – I volunteer my time bringing messages to my community about staying healthy and preventing violence. In fact, this week I just participated in a training about how to provide home-care for my neighbors who can’t get out to the clinic.
I’m 49 years old now, but I remember playing handball when I was a little girl. It’s been a long time since I’ve done it. But I’d like to play again and introduce the sport to the people in my neighborhood. So, on World Refugee Day, I’ll be running to create a handball court and get handball gear for my village, K’sasa A.
Handball is a good sport because anyone can play it. Men, women, boys and girls. And I think coming together to learn a new sport will bring my community together and make us feel happy, joyful and powerful.
To get started, we need balls, goals and sportswear. A handball team has seven players – so we need enough gear for at least two teams of 7 or 14 players.
I will feel so lucky if someone helps me make this happen. Thank you for your support!
