Hi, I am Janie Ivory, thanks for visiting my fundraising page I am so excited to have been chosen as a Youth Ambassador for a Humanitarian Trip with the KENO Foundation traveling to South Africa & Botswana from Jul 31 - Aug 10, 2012.
I am 14 years old and I love to travel. I just graduated from 8th grade at the Atlanta Girls School and I will be attending high school at the Darlington School, a boarding school in Rome, Georgia. I will play tennis full time in the school's tennis academy. Aside from academics and my athletic activities, I have a passion for service and doing work in my community! Throughout the past 5 years, I have worked on three political campaigns including President Obama’s campaign and Mayor Reed of Atlanta. I’ve worked with disabled adults at a facility called Enable, where my classmates and I help with the needs of the disabled and try to stimulate their day with fun activities. I have served meals at Project Open Hand, and done many service projects at my school to help the less fortunate.
Last summer, I won a trip to the Bahamas through the Frank Ski Kids Foundation, where I studied the effects of ocean pollution and received my PADA scuba diving license at the age of 13. Currently, I am a member of the Junior Teen Group of Jack and Jill Atlanta. Jack and Jill is an organization that empowers African-American children to meet new people and become involved in their communities. As a member of Jack and Jill, I have participated in numerous service projects such as feeding the homeless, sorting cans at the food bank and reading books to young children.
I feel that going to Botswana would be a huge opportunity for me to learn about Africa, provide services to people in villages and hospitals and become a year-long Ambassador to Botswana upon our return.
PLEASE CONTRIBUTE TO MY TRIP AND HELP ME BECOME A BETTER STUDENT AND CITIZEN OF THE WORLD! THANK YOU!
