Organized by: Jas Wade

LOVE & LIGHT to YOU! Starting April, I will be living on a farm and participating in the Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems (CASFS) Apprenticeship in Santa Cruz! This is a BIG affirmation to my chosen path of connecting with the land, growing and creating medicine that our Earth home offers us in abundance. I am in a constant process of recognizing, discovering, healing and yielding power from the intersections of my identities and in relationship to my communities. I am committed to cultivating the synergy between my life's work of community organizing and agroecology, sustainable living. I found my passion for gardening through my learning of my own families’ history with the land and seeking to reclaim, heal and engage that piece of mySelf. My great-grand and grandparents that moved to Los Angeles from Texas & Tennessee brought with them the culture and history of working with the land; often keeping small gardens and a great grandmother who continued to wash her clothes in a pot of boiling water over fire! I am seeking to reconnect and become an active learner in agriculture and land cultivation; reclaiming familial and Collective relationship to and knowledge of the land. I am a trained community organizer, and I have consistently been participating in base building and membership development with a few different organizations in Los Angeles these last seven years-mainly in political and social struggles around homelessness, ending criminalization of poor communities of color, state violence, reproductive justice and most recently urban gardening. I am currently in a process of evolvement as an organizer to build hard skills and gain knowledge for decolonizing food production and our diets in connection to mental health and wellness; individual and collective resilience towards building community sustainability and self-determination. I nerd-out or am very interested in strategy for Liberation. I am a student of movements for revolutionary change and am driven by Belief and passion for Liberation for all peoples and bodies- seeking to critically imagine, learn and build on practices from Maroon hxstory and cooperative alternatives. I do not believe in hording knowledge. The training collected and embodied during my year away would only multiply through weaving it into my work that intersects food sovereignty & community organizing. Your donation will help sustain me through the apprenticeship! I will be working 40-50 hours per week on the farm, and so I am not able to hold a stable job or income flow during this time. Sustainability looks like being able to take care of my monthly bills including phone, health insurance, and living costs. Also, I am currently enrolled in an Herbal Immersion course, where I will be learning about medicinal herbs, how they grow, each herb's medicinal profile and how to create medicine with them. So, I will also be creating medicines such as tinctures, teas, honey and syrups, salves and food medicine! I am beginning from scratch, so I will need to purchase many tools and supplies to be fully present and active in my herbal medicine learning and practice. Your donation will allow me to be fully present in the apprenticeship and herbal immersion school with LESS stress and anxiety that comes with surviving and working within This system*. *neo-colonial white supremacist capitalist imperialist patriarchy Tools, living costs that your donation will support include...
