BENEFITING: BRONX JEWISH COMMUNITY COUNCIL INC
We are raising money to buy a headstone for Jashawn Parker, an 8-year-old boy who died in a Bronx building fire in 2002. The family couldn't afford it. The building was severely neglected and the tenants had been asking a court to appoint an outiside administrator for 2 years. City Limits magazine just published an investigation into the landlord, including this article which describes this family's tragedy. http://www.citylimits.org/news/articles/4539/years-of-warnings-then-a-boy-s-death
Bronx Jewish Community Council has agreed to be the fiscal conduit for this project. Their subsidiary, West Bronx Housing and Neighborhood Resource Center, was one of the first groups to help the tenants in this building.
Prior to this Crowdrise fundraising effort, donors already sent about $500 in checks directly to BJCC, so we are just a few hundred dollars away from meeting our total goal of $1500 for the headstone and associated costs such as the installation.
