In 2014 there were 415,129 children in foster care, a 4% increase from 2012; 264,746 children entered care - that translates to a child entering care every two minutes in the United States; 107,918 children were waiting to be adopted; 60,898 children waiting to be adopted whose parental rights (for all living parents) were terminated; and 50,644 children adopted with public child welfare agency involvement (U.S Department of Health and Human Services 2014). Many of you know of my personal and professional experience regarding the foster care system, which is what led me to membership of the Board of Directors of the National Foster Care Alumni of America (FCAA). FCAA provides support, advocacy and mentor-ship to foster youth who have 'graduated' from the foster care system and become foster alumni; the FCAA strives to provide a network of support for these foster youth. You can help us by donating what you can- no amount is too small or too large and is so appreciated. With your help we can continue to strengthen the future of today's vulnerable.
