Jasmine's Dominican Republic: Global Health Initiative Trip
Organized by: Jasmine Yedra
EVENT DATE Aug 07, 2017
Hello and thank you for taking the time to read about my trip. My name is Jasmine Yedra. I am currently a junior in high school in Philadelphia. My parents came to this country around 25 years ago. I am the first generation here in the United States.
Being that my parents were immigrants from two different parts of the world, they could never afford family trips. I have never been on a plane or even out of the tri-state area.
Being in high school, I noticed that after the summer, my fellow peers would speak of their vacations to all over the world. This was something I have always felt left out with. I decided that I want my first trip to be one where I give back.
Recently, I discovered the GLA program where high school students are able to travel to a different part of the world to volunteer. I have chosen the Dominican Republic where I would volunteer to improve the health conditions. I would be helping doctors and Peace Corps. I will volunteer with children and adults to prevent the spread of disease and promote healthier living conditions.
Any amount of your donation helps. Every dollar makes an impact.
