BENEFITING: NEXT STEP FUND INC
EVENT DATE: May 25, 2014
My name is Jasmin Floyd and I’m turning 21 on May 25th. For those who don’t know me, I was diagnosed with an extremely rare bone disease, Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva (FOP) when I was 5 1/2 years old. FOP causes my muscles and connective tissues to turn into an immobilizing layer of bone. My neck, jaw, shoulders, elbows, and knees are either fully or partially affected (locked from extra bone). I also have scoliosis, bumps on my back, and chronic pain.
In honor of this incredible milestone birthday celebration I’d like to ask everyone to donate to my favorite organization, Next Step. Next Step’s mission is to “shatter limitations and elevate aspirations of teens and young adults living with life-threatening diseases”.
I have been a recipient of Next Step’s support and love for the past five years. They have various programs for a wide range of young people, including those battling cancer, sickle cell disease, HIV, metabolic, mitochondrial, and rare genetic diseases (like me). They also have really awesome holiday parties, fundraising events, and online chats.
The Next Step staff are some of the most energetic, crazy, loving, compassionate, loyal, and kindest people I’ve ever come to know. The young adults that I’ve met through Next Step’s Face Forward summer conference have become my best friends (in less than a week!). They understand.
I would love to raise a little extra money for Next Step so that they’re able to continue doing amazing things! Please consider donating. ANY amount is appreciated!! xoxo
