Blame it on my big, caring heart. I've committed to running 26.2 miles in Aukland on November 1st to raise money for an amazing organization. This is a BIG DEAL for me because I really haven't done much running since last year's event in Portugal. However, I have witnessed first hand how being provided with the opportunity to get outside and recreate can have a lifelong impact on someone who has a disibility. It changes their entire demeanor! You see hope, happiness, and a sense of accomplishment. Because I have these powerful images ingrained in my thoughts, I feel strongly about doing what I can to provide these experiences to as many people as possible. The thought of being in a position to help others inspires me to run the hundreds of miles in training...spend hundreds of dollars on shoes, gel blocks, goo, water bottles, running clothes and sunscrean...spend hours away from my family and friends each week to get my miles in...and push my body to do things I wouldn't normally think a sane person should do. Please help me help others acheive their dreams of being able to participate in the activities that most of us take for granted!
Here is more information about what we're doing as a team:
Since 1995 Challenge Aspen has been dedicated to providing recreational, cultural & educational program for people living with disabilities. Our Co-Founders believed that access, community and participation were the keys to healing and establishing rewarding lives for those with disabilities. Challenge Aspen has carried those ideals forward and continues to connect, encourage and inspire those with physical and cognitive disabilities and those who are privileged enough to work with them. Challenge Aspen is helping to break through barriers, helping individuals gain the self-esteem and confidence needed to lead fulfilling, productive lives.
The Challenge Aspen Marathon event is in its 13th year of supporting the Challenge Aspen programs through the participation of our dedicated, amazing runners, walkers and wheelers! If you have ever wanted to run or walk a marathon or half marathon, and would like to make a difference by supporting an organization dedicated to creating possibilities for people facing disabilities, you should be a member of the Challenge Aspen team as a runner, walker, and a donor. Now is the time to make that commitment.
Please donate to support Challenge Aspen programs and these amazing, dedicated runners and walkers! All donations are 100% tax deductible, and will make a difference in the lives of individuals living with disabilities and their family members. Thank you.
