There were 110 stories in each Twin Tower, 220 combined. Although there is no set number that I can find, the average number of individual stairs within a flight of stairs(story) seems to be 20. Mt. Bonnell has 99 stairs that lead to the top of the highest point in all of Austin, which also happens to look over one of Austin's most beautiful scenic views. Those 99 individual stairs equals to 4.95 stories per climb, we'll call it an even 5. In order to reach the equivalent of running up BOTH Twin Towers- 220 stories- to pay ultimate homage, one would need to climb Mt Bonnell 44 times.
We'll meet atop Mt Bonnell at 7am on Thu 9/11 and start shortly thereafter. There will be an "intermission/halftime" as we hold a moment of silence at 8:46am (the time the first tower was struck) to pay tribute to all the innocent lives we lost on that tragic day, as well as for every life that's been taken since then as a result of those attacks. WE WILL NEVER FORGET. Mount Bonnell Park is a non-reservable park so, like every year until we can convince the city otherwise, this is an "unofficial official event". With that being said, please do not feel discouraged if you can't make our start time, you have all day to knock it out on your own! I created this event with the idea and hopes to get everybody out, moving, on 9/11 to honor the fallen. Although we understand it is still a work day, we hope to have as many come and join in with us at 7am as there is nothing like climbing those stairs in the Texas heat with lots of friends and even more strangers but doing it all together, united. Honor the fallen by pushing yourself.
This year, our charity is the same as last year-- Wings For Warriors. The founder, Anthony "Doc" Ameen served this great country alongside my brother Eddie in Afghanistan. He founded Wings for Warriors in 2010 after suffering a severe combat injury and having to deal with the unfortunate reality of being denied his well deserved and rightfully owed benefits. Wings for Warriors is here to help combat wounded Iraq and Afghanistan War veterans(like himself) as they return home and transition into the realm of living with their disabilities. Wings for Warriors works to ensure that veterans receive the adequate healthcare and financial benefits that they are due, as well as building support and assistance from their local communities. Each year, this event, has just about doubled in participants. Next to honoring the fallen, one of our main goals each year with this event is to not only raise awareness for our selected charity, but funds as well. Please donate right here my friends This particular organization is very near and dear to my heart, as its founder is, so after you donate, check out the website and share it via social media to help spread the word!
