The Story

EVENT DATE: Apr 10, 2015

DEADLINE TO GIVE: May 10, 2015

Ethiopia - birthplace of coffee. Ethiopian women are the heart and soul behind this extraordinary beverage.

Ethiopian coffee is prized around the world by coffee connoisseurs.  Most experienced coffee buyers and cuppers will tell you that easily Ethiopian coffees are among their top three favorites.   Ethiopian women form the backbone of the coffee industry, yet share little of the benefits from their hard work.  They rarely receive proper recognition for the important tasks they fulfill, let alone receive proper remuneration for their dedicated work.  Beyond that, women bear the brunt of poverty endemic in the Ethiopian countryside.

JavaJog has dedicated the 2015 fundraising race to the plight of coffee women in the birthplace of coffee.

JavaJog helps promote conditions for women to be respected and valued as an integral part of the entire coffee value chain.  Proceeds of this year's race will be invested in grass-roots projects that build the capacity of women and improve their position in the industry, from cooperative farmer organizations to export businesses. JavaJog will also support programs that improve access to the basic social development needs of women: health, education and family planning. Join JavaJog for a Cause to raise much needed funding and support for our sisters in Ethiopia!

The following organizations have been invited to date to apply for grants (click links for more information):

• Girls Gotta Run
• Grounds for Health
• IWCA Ethiopia
• Common River
• Amaro Gayo (Women's Savings and Credit Organization)

Other organizations are very welcome to submit grant proposals.  Upon conclusion of this year's race, the organizers will determine the total amount of funds raised and begin to accept proposals.  Donations for this year's race will be accepted until April 30th through Crowdrise, or via check to JavaJog for a Cause.
