A synopsis of the ride follo…
A synopsis of the ride follows if you want to keep reading.

The weather was beautiful and clear, though a bit chilly for the ride. The temp was 36 degrees at the start in Norfolk, warmed to 46 by the first water stop, 56 by the second water stop and 62 at the lunch break in East Windsor – just on the edge of chilly. The hills of western Connecticut were beautiful, with dappled sunlight through the almost fully leafed trees, with occasional vistas over the valleys we glided down into, and climbed out of. Of course the pollen levels were high enough to choke a horse, but at least it wasn’t raining.

After lunch we crossed the Serengeti Plains (East Windsor and Ellington never-ending farm fields) and the temp hit a high of 72 for few minutes! Yeah! Of course, as we started climbing the hills out of Ellington to Stafford Springs and got under the trees again the temp dropped and never rose above 62 again.

The hills from Stafford Springs to the camp in Ashford unfortunately had not been ground down by this past winter’s glacier and were just as intimidating and exhausting as always. I get to the point of not wanting to go downhill anymore because I know it means more climbing. The camp is at the high point at the end of the ride.

As always, the evening at the camp was wonderful! Tons of great food. A leg massage!!!!! And a great presentation in the theater. Hearing from former and current campers never leaves a dry eye. Bed by 9:30 with reveille at 6:00!

Sunday’s ride from Camp to Mystic was warmer (very nice) and all downhill (if you believe that I want to sell you a bridge in Arizona). A super reception at the finish in Mystic (as always) and another short leg massage and I was walking like a human that evening!

The support people from start to finish I think get better and more enthusiastic every year. I don’t think I could do the ride without them. They deserve the biggest and loudest thank you’s from all of us ridersl!

Final stats from my bike Garmin:
Total Miles: 136.02
Total Climb: 9,704 feet
Total calories: 9,661
Average speed: 14.2 mph
Slowest speed: 4.8 mph
Fastest speed: 40.2 mph

Thank you all for your support! Anyone want to ride with me next year!?!

I wanted to thank all the do…
I wanted to thank all the donors who made contributions to my Angel Ride fundraising efforts! So far we have raised $1,175 with several corporate matching contributions still to come in. The team (my sister and myself) raised $2,350, again, so far.

I can't tell you enough how big a difference your contribution makes to helping those kids with cancer, getting a moment of camp in the hospital, while they struggle with a horrible illness. You are truly their heroes.

Thank You,
Jay

P.S. A synopsis of the ride follows in separate email if you want to keep reading about the ride itself.

All the best,
Jay
