Stuff About Me:

My name is Janavia Albert, most people call me Jay. I am 21 years old and have this unwavering dedication for selflessness, dependability and charity. I began contributing and participating in charities at the age of 16 and have not stopped since then. My father once told me ,"Giving feels so much better than receiving." Since then, I have always been a giver because my fathers words were felt when I joined my first charity. I come from a long  illustrious line of traditions including honor , courage,& commitment. Becoming a part of the "Lunch On Me Challenge" has been an amazing experience. I chose LOM over any other non-profit organization because everyone from the creator to the volunteers are genuinely passionate about everyone who's on Skid Row. This is thee first organization where, not only do I see the love that's given but I also feel the love that's being applied. LOM is more than just giving food away, it's the connections you have with the people you encounter that is completely priceless. I also joined Lunch On Me because it also has the spiritual aspect to it all. We wouldn't be able to do this without God. My life changed on the morning of MARCH 26, 2016, my first time ever encountering Skid Row. I was driving to the Lunch On Me event, I remember looking at my phone for directions. While I was waiting for the light to change, I began to look at the tall high rise buildings and I remember noticing the light had turned green; I made a left turn in which the directions led me to; I then remembered seeing a tent outside on the curb for the first time. One tent led to another and I was just broken and confused as I could not register that this is real. From that day forward I have dedicated my love, support,& efforts to Lunch On Me. This is by far the best organization I have been a part of and I have no plans on leaving because as we grow, the numbers in starvation on Skid Row will decrease. My first face to face contact with someone who lives on Skid Row: To see someone's face light up because you have displayed generosity, openness, patience but most of all love is an experience money can't buy. There's nothing worst than to hide the fact that we have 54-square blocks of poverty and starvation right here in America. Skid Row has grown to be a part of my live along with the angels that walk upon it. The starvation can be negated if everyone were to actually care and not just "say" you care but become a part of the fight against it. By donating to the Lunch On Me Challenge you can help the Skid Row Angels  smile and keep the hope alive. Remember to do everything out of love. - Jay
