As some of you already know, James C. from JCA was impacted by the flooding this past week in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. On Sunday Aug 14th, at 3:30am, he and his roommate were able to evacuate safely with their cars. But James ended up with about 6-10 inches of water, including what appeared to be raw sewage, in his home. For pictures of the extent of the flooding in Baton Rouge, check out this map. Also see this article to view a boat ride around James' neighborhood (the water has since receded).
We know the cleanup and restoration of his belongings will be challenging for James over the next days, weeks, and months. James' house is all one level, so there is no room that wasn't affected. He must not only replace flooring and walls, but cabinetry, furniture, and anything that happened to be on or near floor level. Flood insurance will hopefully cover some expenses, but the claim has yet to be accepted and it won't cover displacement costs while he waits for repairs.
There is absolutely no obligation to participate, but if you can, every little bit will help James with some extra stability while he puts his home back together.
