Jason Czora wrote -Hello, for those that don't know me, I am a Lieutenant with the Buffalo Fire Dept where I have served for over 21 years. For 9 years before that I was a member of the Snyder Volunteer Fire Department. Last year I started taking bike tours to raise money for charity, and last year rode from Buffalo to Ogunquit, Maine. This year I will be riding my bike from the Fallen Firefirefighters Memorial in Colorado Springs, Colorado to Buffalo, New York. This trip will be done solo, and unsupported and I am estimating that I will ride in the ballpark of 1800 miles. As a Lieutenant with the Buffalo Fire Department I have chosen the Memorial as my starting point for good reason. I have friends on the Memorial and it represents why we serve... I chose the Stephen Siller Foundation this year after seeing the good work that they have been doing not only for Firefighters and Police Officers, but for our countries Veterans. You might ask "why is a Buffalo Firefighter raising money for a FDNY charity"? The answer is simple. First of all we are all one family, and secondly the Foundation although primarily pays off FDNY and NYPD line of duty death families mortgages...which is amazing, they do amazing work for Firefighters and Police Officers families across the country who have lost a loved one in the line of duty. And really more importantly, the work that they do for our service members is incredible. You can read more about their work below and I hope you do. All the money raised will be going directly to the Foundation... I am fully funding my entire ride, please help me raise money for this amazing cause. More information will come out soon, but locally they are helping our service members right here in WNY. About the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation The Siller Family started the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation to honor the memory of their brother, Stephen, a New York City firefighter (FDNY) who lost his life on September 11, 2001 after strapping on his gear and running through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the Twin Towers. The goal of the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation is to continue Stephen’s legacy by supporting our nation’s first responders and service members. Building for America’s Bravest, a proud program of the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, constructs specially adapted smart homes for our most catastrophically injured service members. In January 2015, the Foundation also raised over one million dollars to fully pay off the mortgages for the families of slain NYPD Officers Wenjian Liu and Luis Ramos. Our Mission The mission of the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation is to honor the sacrifice of firefighter Stephen Siller, who laid down his life to save others on September 11, 2001. We also honor our military and first responders who continue to make the supreme sacrifice of life and limb for our country. Please email NYC@Tunnel2Towers.org for answers to any other questions that we may not have addressed.
