It's that time of year again when I'll be running the Pittsburgh Half Marathon for Team JDRF. Most of you know that I've had type 1 diabetes (T1D) for 27 years and usually run in memory of my Aunt Pat who we lost to complications of T1D. I will always run for my Aunt and all living with T1D, but this year I'd like to honor someone(s) else - all of those supporting someone living with T1D. This year I'll run for all of the moms and dads, siblings, best friends, significant others, cousins, college roommates, nieces and nephews, grandparents, aunts, uncles, coworkers, and neighbors. This year I run for all of you who support all of us living with T1D.
What would I have done without someone to bring me peanut butter toast with a side of insulin in the early morning back before pumps and short acting insulin? Who else would have put up with my "hangry" tantrums or giggle fits when I was low? Where would I be without someone telling me that I can do anything anyone else can? I know that I would not be who I am without all of the supportive people in my life. I know you'll be cheering me on on race day, just like you have every day since I was diagnosed. This marathon is for you and everyone else cheering on their T1Ds every day!
Now the good part...in addition to your amazing emotional support, please consider supporting JDRF and making a donation today. With your help, JDRF will continue making tremendous progress in discovering life-changing treatment and eventually a cure for T1D. You can donate with a credit card here or by check. You also have the option to write a personal check to me and my company will match your donation up to $2,500 (message me for this option and I will give you my current mailing address).
Thank you all for your ongoing support today and every day!
