Many of you know that 3 years ago, Alex was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes. Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease that affects both children and adults. Unrelated to lifestyle or diet, it requires never ending management, a lifelong dependence on injected insulin and creates a constant worry of life-threatening complications.
While Alex is doing well now managing her disease, it can be a very devastating disease She currently has to take around 5-6 shots of insulin per day in addition to checking her blood sugar levels. There is currently no cure for this disease and those that suffer from it can only manage it the best they can.
JDRF's mission statement is accelerating life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent and treat type 1 diabetes (T1D) and its complications.
