Team JDRF Training Update
April 03, 2017
Dear Friends and Family,
I've committed to running the City of Pittsburgh Half Marathon on behalf of The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. I'll be running with other JDRF team members to help fund a cure for Type 1 Diabetes. JDRF is the only global organization with a strategic plan to fight Type 1 diabetes (T1D). I'm asking you to help support my fundraising efforts with a tax-deductible gift that will help make a difference in the lives of millions of people with T1D.
First a science lesson: For those of you who are unfamiliar or don't know anyone with this disease, diabetes is when your pancreas stops producing insulin, which is a hormone your body uses to get energy from the food you eat. Diabetes is a life long illness that requires constant monitoring of your blood sugar levels and injections or infusions of insulin around the clock. What causes type 1 diabetes is as of now, unknown.
The JDRF mission is to do several things, 1.) find a cure for type 1 diabetes. 2.) Remove the misconception that type 1 diabetes is only a childrens disease. Once you're diagnosed, it doesn't go away when you become an adult. It stays with you for your lifetime. 3.) Provide support and resources for individuals with type 1 diabetes and their families to help manage their condition.
Every dollar JDRF spends comes from donors like you! Any amount great or small helps JDRF get closer to its goal scientific advances from the laboratory to clinical trials and into the hands of people with T1D!
Together, we can create a world without T1D!
