My husband Howard was diagnosed in 1997 with epilepsy. One of the first phone calls his mother made was to Phil Gattone at the Epilepsy Foundation. He returned her call and gave her so much information and more importantly made her feel as though she was not alone.
Our journey with epilepsy has been a long one but we are so lucky. Howard had surgery 12 years ago and has been siezure free ever since. We have two beautiful girls and a wonderful network of family and friends that have supported us all these years.
The Epilepsy Foundation has been a part of this journey all these years.
Howard is on the Board of Directors for the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago.
Team Howard (organized every year by Howard's mom, Judith Zwirn) has raised money every year for the local foundation in the anual 5K and we have also done the national 5K.
In 2014, I ran the NYC marathon for the Foundation and in 2016 I am going to do it again. Team Howard is heading east. Please support us and the Epilepsy Foundation!
Athletes vs. Epilepsy is excited to be heading back to New York City for the 2016 TCS New York City Marathon! Here is your opportunity to participate in one of the premiere running events in the nation. The TCS New York City Marathon is the world's greatest road race. As the professional athletes and nearly 800,000 past participants will attest, crossing the finish line in Central Park is one of the true thrills of a lifetime.
Athletes vs Epilepsy is participating in the TCS New York City Marathon on Sunday, November 6 to raise funds to help stop seizures and find a cure for epilepsy. Your efforts will raise awareness in support of the nearly 3 million people in the United States who have epilepsy.
Athletes vs. Epilepsy is a nationwide program for athletes of all ages and levels, coaches, volunteers and fans. The goal is to raise awareness, build participation, and help fund the Epilepsy Foundation’s mission to stop seizures and SUDEP, find a cure, and overcome the challenges created by epilepsy through efforts including education, advocacy, and research to accelerate ideas into therapies. The initiative helps to bring epilepsy awareness to all sports through participation by athletes of all ages and skill levels as well as their supportive friends, family, and fans.
The Epilepsy Foundation is dedicated to ensuring that people with epilepsy can experience all that life has to offer. Athletes vs. Epilepsy affirms this positive message and embodies it through action and the belief that anyone, regardless of athletic talent, can help to fundraise and raise awareness.
