The Story

As the scientific community’s understanding of the human genome has expanded, so too has the therapeutic toolbox at our disposal. While chemotherapy remains incapable of discriminating between healthy and cancerous cells, gene therapy harnesses the innate genetic differences between cells to selectively target and eliminate cancer cells. By personalizing a treatment for each patient, gene therapy will usher in a new era of cancer therapeutics.

The National Foundation for Cancer Research is partnering with Onconetics, one of the leading pioneers in gene therapy, on “Jeans for Genes” —a fun and straightforward way for businesses, institutions or corporate offices to raise money for advancing the development of next generation cancer treatment.

On a predetermined day, employees are given the option of wearing jeans to work for a small donation.  Employers are encouraged to match or exceed all donations and support NFCR’s work in gene therapy to help cure cancer.   In addition, companies can use the day to host a pizza or ice cream party, plan a silent auction, conduct raffles, take fun photos, record a viral video, share their fundraising page via email and social media, incentive top fundraisers with an extra vacation day or other perks, or create their own fun way to encourage 100% participation.
