BENEFITING: Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Inc.
As many of you know, I am training to run the Paris Marathon in April 2012. To date, my only goal for this marathon was to train for and run it without injury.
I failed. Damn foot.
I'll be back in my shoes soon, though, and have a new goal: to recover some of the money Planned Parenthood lost when the Susan G. Komen Foundation showed us where their baby pink heart is and to stand up for safe, affordable medical care and medically accurate sex education. Oh, and I'm still planning to run the race and celebrate with lots of champagne, croissants and cheese.
UPDATE: I am cleared to run again and started with a strong 8 miles on February 12. I'll be running 11 miles on the 19th in NYC with Cindy Yang (thanks Cindy for the encouragement and support) and should be back on track with a fairly aggressive training schedule. In other news, of course Komen restored the current grant to PP and has had some executive turnover. There are no guarantees of future funding, though, and I would rather give money directly to Planned Parenthood without restricting it to particular procedures.
As a former Planned Parenthood volunteer and patient and current woman and citizen, I really appreciate your support in helping this amazing organization.
To your health,
ps. I couldn't select the Planned Parenthood Action Fund as a recipient here, but I also encourage donations to them. If you donate there, let me know and I'll update it here as an "offline donation."
