BENEFITING: Transverse Myelitis Association
EVENT DATE: Jun 22, 2014
"On August 4th 2008, our lives were forever changed, our happy little 13 month old baby girl got very sick. She spent the next four days in the PICU on a ventilator as doctors worked to determine what was wrong. When she was finally able to breath on her own and woke up we knew something was wrong, she was having trouble moving her arms and wouldn't sit up. After another 12 days in our local childrens hospital, where she received hours each day getting instense physical therapy, she regained some function in her arms and trunk. TM has left her with many disabilities such as, hypertone in her legs, decreased strength in her legs, trunk, arms and hands, chronic fatigue, bowel and bladder disfunction, poor memory, learning disabilities and sesory integration disorder. Through all of this Alyssa has made many gains, while she is primarily dependent on a wheelchair for mobility she is now able to use a walker for short distances, has improved hand strength, can throw a ball overhead, is starting to read and is participating in sports. The TMA has allowed our family the opportunity to obtain resources and education from leading physicians in this field. Because of the TMA, our family, and many others, are able to go to camp each year where our kids can just be kids and can feel a sense of belonging and where we as parents can meet with the medical community and openly discuss what we see day in and day out, at no cost to us...this has been invaluable to our family and we cannot thank them enough.
Our goal as a group is to raise $1,000, I know we can surpass this goal! But we need your help....please consider donating today." -The Compton's
