It is really, really difficult for me to believe that Peter has been gone for 16 years. It is tough to think about how someone who was so full of life and could light up a room just by being there will forever be suspended in time at 25 years while the world has moved forward around us.
There is a picture that I have in my basement of Peter. It is just of him and he is sitting there smiling, which captures his essence perfectly. As my kids get older, they will ask me who that is. With a smile on my face and a tear in my eye, I always love those moments, as it allows me to talk about him as a way to keep his memory alive.
That's probably the hardest part for me- thinking about the possibility that at some point he could potentially be forgotten. This is what makes FOPA so important. This ensures that Peter will never be forgotten and serves as an outlet for us to tell others about what a special person, and more importantly, what a special friend, he was. While the best memories I have are with all of the Scarsdale boys hanging out collectively as a group, some of my most favorite memories are of doing things with Peter one on one.
One of his best qualities was the ability to make a good time in any situation. In the spring of our senior year of high school, I wanted to go see a Meatloaf concert at Brendan Byrne. Shockingly, none of our friends wanted to go. Knowing that I really wanted to see the concert, Peter stepped up and said "I'll go, and it will be awesome". While musically, it may not have been the best concert I ever went to, it was definitely the most fun. Despite being just the two of us, we ended up tailgating with a huge group. Peter just walked up and made friends with them because that was the type of person he was.
