BENEFITING: The Pittsburgh Promise
EVENT DATE: Aug 07, 2015
Thanks for visiting my donation page. There are a couple of ways to justify your donation; you could consider it as a great way to support The Pittsburgh Promise in their efforts to provide college funding for inner city school kids or you could look at it as a way of encouraging me to inflict great bodily pain upon myself. Whether you have a kind heart for these kids or you just like the sadistic nature of encouraging me in inflict pain upon myself doesn’t matter to me, your contribution is appreciated either way.
I would never ask for a donation without putting some effort into the task myself. As many of you know, I run a lot but even so, for this event you have to really ramp up the training. My goal is to train at about 100 miles per week and do much of that in my heavy winter running gear. Wearing cold weather gear while running in the middle of the summer will get you accustom to the intense heat of the desert and it will also gets you some pretty funny stares and comments from mystified onlookers.
I have about 5 week of training left. The only one who will be happier than me to finish the “heat” training is my lovely wife who washes all those rather ripe sweaty running clothes. If nothing else, think of her when you make your contribution…..
UPDATE 07/07: Two weeks to go and I have finished my last long heat runs. Nothing left to do except burn all those rather ripe smelling running clothes and do a lot of carbo loading (my favortie part of training).
UPDATE 07/22: Well I made it across the desert without killing myself. Just as important, we have exceeded our goal for the Pittsburgh Promise. THANKS TO ALL WHO HELPED OUT!
