WATER RATS PA… SAYS:

A week ago, more than 175 swimmers, ranging in age from 6 to 18, took part in Swim for Nepal, a five-hour event held at the Westport Weston Family YMCA’s Bedford Family Center to benefit Save the Children’s relief efforts in Nepal. You generously supported their efforts. As of this afternoon, the swimmers have raised $38,950.

Top fundraisers were the relay teams of Ella Hecker and Stella Savone ($5,465), and sisters Anwara, Ayaan and Annam Olasewere ($4,785). Aileen Coyne ($2,705), Max Wimer ($2,300) and Mark Schachter ($1,948) led in individual fundraising.

Staples High School senior Daniel Williams (who will be swimming for Bowdoin College next year) swam the farthest by completing 228 laps. Staples senior North Woods (who will be swimming for Loyola University Maryland) came in second with 222 laps.

Staples High School and Water Rat coaches strive to teach swimmers the value of hard work, persistence and sacrifice - both in and out of the water. Your generous gift to Save the Children helped underscore the importance of these values.

Your support of one (or more) of our swimmers soon will make a difference in the Nepal, where approximately 3.7 million people were affected by two separate earthquakes.

Save the Children is working around the clock to help children and their families with emergency assistance during this difficult time. Your donation will help relief experts move desperately needed supplies into hard hit communities and help them provide the services that children and their families need to recover from these dual tragedies.

Please feel free to forward our the URL of our Crowdrise site (https://www.crowdrise.com/swimfornepal). We will continue to accept donations until the school year ends in Westport on June 19th.

In the meantime, we thank you again for your support; we thank you for generosity; and most of all we thank you for helping teach our swimmers the true meaning of teamwork.

Kind regards,
The Water Rats Parents’ Club
