To know Jeff is to understand what it means to live a life committed to others. Jeff has always worked extremely hard to provide for his family but it’s his deep desire to help others that defines his character. In April 2013 this strong, hard-working, dedicated family man went to the emergency room thinking he was having a heart attack. It was at that time that he learned that the pressure and pain in his chest was a result of Small Cell Lung Cancer (SCLC). After several consultations it was determined that although he had several large tumors the cancer was only in his lungs. Jeff immediately started an aggressive regiment of radiation and chemotherapy. After several months of grueling treatments including preventative brain radiation, the doctors said that the cancer was in remission – we rejoiced and praised GOD!!!! Sadly, that good news was short lived as the next scans showed that the cancer had spread to his adrenal gland. Unlike the more common lung cancer, non-small cell lung cancer, Jeff’s cancer is not operable and is extremely aggressive. Jeff was admitted into an experimental immunotherapy treatment program at Moffitt Cancer Center in January where we prayed that the new treatment would shrink the new tumor. In March he learned that although the immunotherapy seems to have shank or possibly killed the cancer on the adrenal gland the cancer has now spread to his liver. He has started another regiment of chemotherapy and we are praying the side effects will be minimal and the results outstanding.
During the past year Jeff has continued to work fulltime as a foreman for a construction company. We have been amazed at his determination and sheer will power but as Jeff gets weaker it is becoming more difficult, if not impossible for him to continue working. Jeff doesn’t have short or long term disability so when he is no longer able to work there will be zero income to pay or basic living expenses, COBRA, or medical deductibles and copays. Jeff’s ability to fight this cancer and his overall quality of life during this battle is dependent on him being able to rest really care for himself, something that cannot be done working construction.
We are asking for your generous donation, of any amount, to assist Jeff and his family as they endure this horrific disease. He is so deeply loved by so many and we want nothing more than to provide Jeff with some of the love, support, hope and care that he has given to so many.
