THE STORY:

In 2010 Jen was diagnosed with melanoma on her stomach. Soon after she had surgery to have it removed. After having the surgery and going to a couple of doctor’s appointments to have some tests done, it was determined that the surgeon had successfully removed the cancer and she did not need chemotherapy. Five years later and after having gone to several doctor’s appointments, Jen was cancer free. As you all know Jen was a workout fanatic. Late in 2014 Jen began having lower back pain. Thinking it was just a pulled muscle, we thought it would eventually heal. When it did not heal, Jen went to see a Chinese herb doctor who thought it was a trigger point in her back muscle. She began taking herbs which eased her pain for a while. In April of 2015 Jen was involved in a car accident. She had been rear ended on her way to work and injured her back. It was at this time she had an MRI performed. Unfortunately that is when we received the bad news. The MRI revealed that Jen had a small tumor just outside of her lung and had a spot on her spine. She found an oncologist right away and received even more bad news; the cancer was deemed inoperable. After a lot of tears, Jen told the doctor to just start the treatments and for her, not be told the results. After six rounds of radiation and a few rounds of chemotherapy, Jen had suffered a stroke. In September of 2015, Jen was sleeping on the coach in our TV room. I woke her up and noticed that the left side of her face was drooping. I called for an ambulance and we ended up in the hospital. While in the emergency room, Jen began to regain all of her functions. After getting out of the hospital we began physical therapy. After a couple of weeks, Jen suffered a second stroke. Again she was rushed to the emergency room. While there she began to regain all her functions once again. Jen was subsequently admitted to the hospital and was transferred to a room for tests and observation. While in the room things turned for the worse. She had lost her ability to speak and write. After several more tests were done, our family was given the worst news of all; Jen had a blood clot attached to her heart valve. The doctor had told us that every time the valve opened up, a piece of the clot would break off and travel to her brain. The doctor said it was like as if a shotgun went off in her brain. At this point there was nothing left that the doctors could do for her. The only thing left for us was just to make the final days of Jen’s life, as comfortable as possible. On February 17, 2016 we brought Jen home for the last time. In the afternoon of February 19, 2016 Jen, who was a strong fighter and never knew the meaning of “giving up”, lost her battle with cancer. She went peacefully in her sleep and was surrounded by her family. Jen will truly be missed by all. On September 10, 2017 I will be participating in the Madison Wisconsin Ironman Triathlon in memory of my best friend and life partner Jennifer Stein. I would appreciate anyone reading this to donate whatever you can to help find a cure for this horrible disease. Thank you for your donation, Jim Blasz
