BENEFITING: C Three Foundation
EVENT DATE: Nov 05, 2015
UPDATE: Thank you for helping me to reach my 1st goal of $1,000 to participate. The C Three Foundation has transferred those funds to Shatterproof and is now officially sponsoring my rappel. With about 6 weeks to go, I'm turning my attention to raising another $1,000, which will benefit C Three.
In the last year, less than 8% of people with alcohol use disorder sought treatment. Why? Two of the biggest reasons include stigma and the belief that treatment doesn't work. That's why I'm taking part in the Shatterproof Challenge on Nov. 5, 2015 and raising money both to end the stigma associated with alcohol use disorder and to raise awareness of the Sinclair Method, a medical means of treating alcohol use disorder that targets and eliminates the craving for alcohol...that typically works for 3 out of 4 people who use it (based on 18 years of use in Finland).
One of the goals of the C Three Foundation is to eliminate the stigma that surrounds alcohol use disorder (AUD). AUD (no, not the Australian currency) is often ignored because society, and many in the treatment industry, believe harmful alcohol consumption should also carry a lifetime label--alcoholic. It's why so many people who drink at levels that may be harmful to their (or someone else's) health, don't seek out help until after they have no other choice. Plus, how often do you hear someone say, "Once a smoker, always a smoker"? So why do we do it with alcohol?
But what if we can help prevent some of the alcohol-related disease, domestic violence, crime and impaired driving simply by taking the stigma and labels out of the equation and begin talking about alcohol risks in terms of medical conditions? Isn't even one life worth it?
The C Three Foundation wants to send its Executive Director (me) to jump off a building, I mean, safely rappel down the side of a building in Orlando. After all, I went sky diving for a story as a newspaper intern. How can I pass up the opportunity to rappel for something I believe in?

Here's how this fundraiser works:
The C Three Foundation, with your help, is going to sponsor my jump. To do that, I need to raise a minimum of $1,000 in addition to the registration fee, which I have already paid. Funds that are donated above the $1,000 mark will help fund C Three Foundation efforts to combat AUD stigma. Ultimately, I'd like to raise $1,000 for each organization. Please consider giving at least $10 to help these wonderful causes.
