Team Joseph is a 501c3 non-profit organization named after Joseph Penrod, of Michigan, dedicated to funding cutting edge research to find a treatment or cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a disease affecting mostly boys. Duchenne is a progressive and 100% fatal form of muscular dystrophy and most boys, like Joseph, are diagnosed in their early years of childhood. Eventually, the disease breaks down muscles in the body and robs the boys' ability to walk, run, jump and hug their family. The disease begins to affect the heart and lungs in the late teenage and young adult years, and most boys lose their battle to Duchenne in their 20s or 30s. Since boys with Duchenne eventually lose the ability to walk, they do not get the opportunity to play sports with their friends, or eventually run a marathon. Joseph is the teenage brother of Jenn's roommate, and was born with Duchenne. Jenn wants to support research and spread awareness for this organization by running her first marathon for the kids who can't. Duchenne is one of the most fatal and progressive types of muscular dystrophy so it's so important that we continue to fund research! Currently there is no treatment or cure. Jenn is asking friends, family and anyone who can give, to help her as she trains and fundraises for a cause near to her heart! Jenn will be running the Chicago Marathon on October 8th, and wants to raise as much money as she can for Team Joseph until race day. Any donation matters. With your contribution, you will be a part of leaving a legacy and defeating Duchenne.
