I am running the NYC Half Marathon this spring to raise money in honor of my mother, Carole Sacks. Since my mom was originally diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2007, I have wanted to run a race to raise money for ovarian cancer research.
In honor of my mom, I am raising money for the Ovarian Cancer Translational Research Group at Mt. Sinai Hospital. This fundraiser will help my mother's amazing doctors, Dr. Peter Dottino and Dr. Anne Marie Beddoe, and the rest of their department work towards early detection and cure of ovarian cancer.
The Ovarian Cancer Translational Research Group is intent on finding markers for early detection and prevention of ovarian cancer by identifying molecules that tumors secrete which could be detected by a blood test to possibly signal the earliest stages of tumor formation or response to different treatments. It is also investigating potential therapeutic targets and genetic markers associated with disease recurrence and risks that are present even before a tumor develops. Ultimately, the goal is to provide the genetic information which can change how we deal with ovarian cancer. You can find out more about the research group here:
There is very little known about ovarian cancer and there are no current predictive screenings. Most people, like my mother, are not diagnosed until advanced stages, making early prevention research critical in the fight against this disease.
I hope that you will make a donation towards this important cause. My mom would be really proud of me and very grateful for all of your contributions.
P.S. - If your company has a matching policy, please submit your donation so we can raise even more money. I appreciate all the help we can get!
