Imagine waking up one morning feeling like you had the flu, and never feeling better. Imagine not being able to drive, sit at the table with family for dinner or even shower on your own. Imagine being told by a doctor that you have a lifelong, debilitating illness, but they have no medicine or treatment for you.
These are common realities of those who suffer from DYSAUTONOMIA, a disorder of the autonomic nervous system, affecting approximately 70 million people worldwide. Sadly, most people have never heard of it, including many doctors, and as a result, patients are slow to be properly diagnosed and left with unclear treatment plans and ineffective medicines.
For this reason, we have organized a fun run to help bring awareness and generate funds for research – more research means faster diagnosis, proper treatment options, and potentially, even a cure!
We invite you to participate in the inaugural Run for DREAMS, on Saturday, October 8, 2016, at Burroughs Park in Tomball, TX, benefiting Dysautonomia International, to help raise awareness and funds for research.
This event will feature a 5K Trail Run, as well as a Family Fun K, where you can walk, run or roll on the 1K paved track around March’s Pond. Check-in starts at 8 a.m., and post-race activities will go until 11 a.m.
- $25 early registration throughout July
- $30 during the month of August
- $35 during the month of September
- $40 late registration in October
Registration includes a t-shirt and post-race snacks and refreshments. Stroller riders are free, but will not receive a t-shirt. T-shirts are guaranteed only to those registered by Friday, September 23, 2016, so please register early.
Can’t attend but want to support the cause and get a shirt mailed to you? You can! For just $30, you can Sleep in for DREAMS – simply choose this option when registering and we’ll mail an event t-shirt right to you!
If you don't want to walk or run, you can still come on out to learn more about Dysautonomia, help raise awareness, and support a great cause! The park has multiple playgrounds, volleyball courts, a fishing pier and several other family-friendly activities for everyone to enjoy. We appreciate your support to make our awareness event a success!
The funds raised from this walk will be donated to Dysautonomia International, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Their mission is to identify the causes and cures for all forms of dysautonomia, and to enhance the quality-of-life of people currently living with these illnesses. For more information, please visit www.DysautonomiaInternational.org.
“There is no cure for any form of dysautonomia at this time, and despite the high prevalence of dysautonomia, most patients take several years to get diagnosed due to a lack of awareness amongst the public and within the medical profession. Dysautonomia International is funding research to develop better treatments, and hopefully someday a cure for each form of dysautonomia.”
