As we head into the summer, many of us are thinking about which summer camps are the right fit for our children. However, many children who are battling serious illnesses never get to experience summer camp. I'd like to help make summer camp a reality for these children.
I will be running the NYC Marathon this year as a member of "The Hole in the Wall Gang" team. It will be my first Marathon and partnering with this charity seemed like the perfect fit for me as a mother of three young children. Every dollar I raise through my fundraising efforts will be used to help send a seriously ill child (or multiple children!) to summer camp.
I hope that this child gets to splash in the lake, learn to canoe, make arts and crafts, sit by a campfire, play some baseball....and have an experience they will never forget. So, at this time of year where many of us are writing out checks to send our children to summer camp, I hope you can help me in my campaign to change the summer of a seriously ill child.
Founded by Paul Newman in 1988, The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp is dedicated to providing "a different kind of healing" to seriously ill children and their families throughout the Northeast, free of charge. It's a community that celebrates the fun, friendship and spirit of childhood where every kid can "raise a little hell."
The Camp serves more than 20,000 children and family members annually — all free of charge. More than 1,000 children attend the signature summer program from June to August. The summer program alone has served more than 21,000 children since Camp began in 1988. In the non-summer months, they serve an additional 3,000 children and their family members through camper reunions, family weekends, parent retreats and programs for the community. Through their Hospital Outreach Program, they provide 18,000 child visits to the bedsides of seriously ill hospitalized children over the course of a year.
Please join me and help make this the summer of a lifetime for a seriously ill child. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions at all. Thank you for all of your support!
