On April 5, 2011, I was diagnosed with Rectal Cancer. I was 39. I was the mother of a then four and six year old. My first thought was that I would never see my babies grow up, leave my husband all alone. Leave my parents to bury their child. I was told by a wonderful Colorectal surgeon, Dr. John Monson that I had cancer but I was a potentially curable patient. He told me something I will never forget, " I need a year of your life, I will give you the rest of it back". Oncologists, Radio Oncologists, Chemo, words I had spoken as an R.N. but never needed as a person. Thank you Dr. Monson, Dr. Hezel, Dr. Katz, Carol Lustig NP, Chrissy R.N., and the other Carol NP who stayed to hydrate me with fluids after hours after radiation treatments. Thank you for making me cancer free, thank you for saving my life.
