BENEFITING: ANIMAL WELFARE SOCIETY INC
EVENT DATE: Sep 13, 2015
We adopted 12-week-old Danny (AKA Chocott) from the Animal Welfare Society at the end of May. He was the wiggliest, happiest little puppy you've ever seen. Since then, he's more than doubled in size, and looks more like a red Golden Retriever every day. Whatever kind of dog he is, we're madly in love with him.
We're Strutting Our Mutt in honor of Danny, but also in honor of the one-year-old dog we adopted earlier this summer through a different rescue, who was coincidentally named Sadie.* She'd been living outdoors in the South, and she was skittish, anxious, and terrified of being inside. (Everlasting curses upon the humans who made her that way.) We had hoped that with lots of patience and gentleness, she would come to trust us -- but we didn't have enough time. She was at our house for only a few days when she slipped her collar and bolted for the woods. We had lots of help from neighbors, friends, and dog recovery groups, and we tried everything we could to bring her home. She was missing for almost a week when she was struck and killed on the highway. Needless to say, it was one of the most miserable and heartbreaking weeks of our lives.
We are absolutely thrilled to have started over with Danny, who still thinks strangers are just best friends he hasn't met yet. We are determined to give him the puppyhood that poor Sadie never got.
Thank you!! <3 Jenn and Nate
