Jennifer's post recovery needs
Organized by: Jennifer Sutherland
Hello everyone I have been a medical assistant for 15 years. I was terribly ill in a few months, I worked on. In March 2015 I had been fired for missing so many days, from having to go to the hospital where I was told over and over again it was only uti's, kidney stones, Ext. I knew this was not right, I knew my body, I was finally so scared I stayed the night with a good friend, I knew I was dying. I was 37 years old I weighed 134 pounds when I went to sleep that night, my friend happened to wake up very early around 4 or 4:30 am he came to check on me, what he found was a half dead person he carried me to his veichle and got me to Parkridge hospital just as I stopped breathing, I was in a grandmal seizure and spinal strokes, yet the amazing staff at this hospital were able to revive me, they brought me back to life. I was finally diagnosed with a perforated intestine that was missed for 7 days on the MRI thank the good lord for the dr that finally ordered one more MRI on that 7th day and the porforation was found. It took the medical staff 6 hours to get me stable enough just for the ambulance ride to another hospital that could preform the emergency surgery. My family was told I would probably not make it either on my way to the hospital and even greater chance that I would never make it through the surgery, there were complications however I did make it! I was on life support for some time I was finally transferred to a nursing home where my family was told I would be indefinitely, they were just waiting for me to die there. I have absolutely no memory of any of this, I remember only going to sleep that night, and then waking up in a nursing home that I used to work for, one of the nurses I worked with was sitting on my bed. I had no idea what was going on I could not sit up I could not walk on my own I weighed 90 pounds!! All of my hair was cut off, I could not bare to look at myself in the mirror the only time I did was when I absolutely had to. I was finally released from the nursing home in the care of my mother. I lost everything, my house, car, things I had in a storage room where I kept both of my children's older keepsakes, my family and I were not close, I had a drinking problem for a few years, I have been sober for almost 21 months now! Thank the lord. I will hopefully be walking again in a few months and I would love to start school to be a paramedic, however I can not get any help from financial aid due to not having payed off the aid I received for my medical assistanting program. I love my parents but my mother has an obsession with animals, I am having to live with them in a two bedroom apartment in front of their store along with many dogs and cats. Everyone keeps telling me I am here for a reason that I am a miracle, I truly feel I am here to help others by being a paramedic and by setting up a AA and NA group in the town I live in. This town is so small, there are not even any stop lights only a few stop signs. I tried to go to the AA meeting that is here, however it was made very clear that was for men only. I have never begged for help or money, but I do need help and money now to fulfill my reasons for being here despite all the odds against me. There is much more to my story. Thank you for reading this even if you can not donate to help please just keep me in your prayers.
