THE STORY:

Thank you for looking into my fundraiser!  At the end of this email, I have an incentive list, based on the size of your donation.  Please let me know if you have ideas for incentives or would like to swap out an incentive for others on the list.

At 3, I was diagnosed with sensoraneural hearing loss in both ears.  It was moderate at that time and hearing aids were great!

Over the years, my hearing loss has steadily gotten worse and hearing aids have become less effective.  Although I learned sign language 4 times as an attempt to make my life easier, when very few people in my life also committed to learning it, I was unable to make it a part of my life.

Bringing me to today: my hearing loss has reached a point where I simply cannot handle the exhaustion and physically taxing demands on my body.  I am needing to fully embrace the deaf side of my life once and for all.

Because of the progression of my disability, I am finding it very difficult to work a full 40 hours each week and am getting more stressed with how I can make ends meet through this transition.

I still have about $6,000 left on my medical debt from previous hearing loss related expenses (hearing aids, audiology visits, batteries, etc = not covered by insurance).  I've set my fundraiser goal to $7,000 to hopefully help me with a little cushion to get me through this transition as I figure out what possible employment related resources are out there for me.

To start, I would like all of you to get to a computer, smartphone, or tablet you can turn sound on without having to use headphones.  Then go to the website listed below and follow the instructions.

Categories:

Normal is what the majority of the world is able to hear like

Mild is how I hear with hearing aids in on a day when I am fully rested and have energy

Moderate is how I hear with hearing aids in on on a day when I am very tired and have little to no energy

Severe is how I hear without my hearing aids in and once hearing aids no longer work for me, it's how I will hear all the time (basically not at all)

When you do the speech options, you will notice that some of the letters are red.  Those are letters that I generally tend to miss so my brain spends quite a lot of time trying to fill in the gaps and piece together what I heard with what I think you might be saying.

Here's the website: http://www.starkey.com/hearing-loss-simulator

Again, thank you for your time!
