EVENT DATE Feb 13, 2017
Looking to raise $19,580 to go toward the tuition for a course with an outdoor organization. The organization is The National Center for Outdoor & Adventure Education, and the course is titled "Spring Semester-Patagonia"-and is focused on learning environmental, technical, interpersonal and intrapersonal skills in order to become an effective outdoor educator (here's the link to the course page: https://ncoae.org/courses/spring-semester-patagonia/). Tuition will cover food, lodging, instruction and transportation during the course (and may also cover group equipment such as tents, boats, technical climbing equipment, cooking supplies, maps and certifications when necessary).
This course, however, is more than just an opportunity to get a job/career doing what I love-it's about using that job to give to others by sharing my knowledge of (and enthusiasm for) the outdoors, an opportunity to do what I love and with those I want to do it with. My ultimate goal for my career (and my life) is to share with others my knowledge of camping skills (e.g., how to set up a tent), along with activities such as mountain biking and hiking. While that goal may seem like it doesn't exactly fit with this course, my experience with outdoor education thus far has revealed to me that you just never really know where you might find a place to establish your niche (be it Patagonia or the city you call home).
