We are raising funds to help our friend Jessica fight cancer. She was diagnosed on March 17 at just 32 years old with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Nodular Sclerosing Stage 2a - cancerous cells in lymph nodes throughout chest and neck. In Jessica's own words:
"Compared to those who have other cancers, I’m lucky. Lymphoma is one of the most treatable, curable cancers. The chemotherapy regime isn’t pleasant, and it’s one of the longer regimes (at 6 months, not including radiation), but it is also less toxic and has less side effects than it used to. But it is still going to be a long road, and one that can’t easily be predicted. If all goes well, I will have an unpleasant and expensive 6 months, but with the prospect of being cancer free at the end.
In addition to the cost of treatment itself, the other financial aspect I have to consider is that I will not get a reprieve on any of my current, non-cancer related expenses. My student loans could not be deferred, nor my credit card payments. So student loans, credit card, cell phone, car payments and car insurance, all have to be paid, along with the additional expenses of treatment, medications, cleaning supplies and related medical supplies. Food expenses are also higher than normal, as easy to prepare meals are a must due to decreased energy levels.
Any little bit will help. The medical bills have already started coming in, and I’ve already spent quite a bit on incidentals and still have a few other items to buy.
I’m not sure what else to say except that I’m grateful for everything everyone has done so far, and for whatever anyone may do in the future. It’s going to be a long journey, but I am so, so lucky to have so many people to help along the way.
Any amount helps -- no amount is too small. And all funds will be used exclusively to help me beat this disease! I plan to have a full recovery and once I am well again, I will do my best to pay it forward and help others who need some support."
