Dear Jessica I just wanted t…
Dear Jessica
I just wanted to take a minute to thank you for donating to the Sprout Lake scholarship fund as a part of the One Grand Challenge campaign. You’ll get (or may have already gotten) an official recognition from Sprout Lake that I think can be used for tax purposes, but this one is a personal note from me. The years have separated all of us who got our start at Sprout or TY or on Year Course, but I find I can never say no to Sprout, TY or YJ when they ask for my help. I truly owe a debt of gratitude for all that was given to me and it is a debt I will never be able to repay on my own so I thank you for helping out.
If I could impose on you one more time; this week is the last week of the campaign and while we’ve exceeded our goal (thanks to people like you) we’re so close to $15,000 in overall donations which would mean three full scholarships. As this week moves forward, if you could, please comment on the One Grand Challenge Facebook posts or share the donation link again on your timeline. While we’ve had close to 200 donors to date think about how many people we all went to camp with over the years. There are still plenty of people out there who might see it and decide to kick in a few bucks. Every little bit helps.

Thanks again for donating and thanks in advance for helping to spread the word this week.

Stuff About Me:

With my 40th birthday one month away, I have decided to do something, last minute, to set the tone for my next 40 years.

A dear family friend of ours has been battling breast cancer since last year.  To support her and her family, I will be running The Miami Half Marathon next Sunday, February 2nd, to raise money, in her honor.   She has requested that all money raised go to Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

Kerry Becker, 40 years old, mother of three, ages 9,7,3, was diagnosed with triple negative, Stage III invasive lobular breast cancer in June 2013 on her first ever mammogram. This caught us all by surprise, given the size of the tumor and lack of risk factors, including a negative family history.

She has undergone six months of chemotherapy at St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. In February 2014, she will begin radiation therapy, which will then be followed with additional surgery.

Kerry has been an inspiration for all those of whom she has met during her treatment, constantly staying strong and positive. She has become a tremendous advocate about the need for breast cancer screening to women she meets.

In order to raise awareness and celebrate the conclusion of her chemotherapy, Kerry recently completed a 5K Komen Race for the Cure in the Bahamas in January 2014.

Please support me in my efforts and as a result, you will be helping women and families everywhere.

Thank you.
