She did it!

Every student can benefit from a mentor. I didn't quite understand the impact that a mentor could have until I joined the iMentor program. Starting in September 2015, I was paired with a bright student named Zarmeena at the International High School at Lafayette (Brooklyn).
Zarmeena is a kind, caring, energetic and shy teenager from Pakistan. She loves her large family and has many interests- dancing, cooking, fashion design, photography, and more! Her family came to the US just a few years ago and Zarmeena had to start all over in a new school, new city, new country. She's a hard working student but faces challenges that many immigrant teenagers struggle with- cultural identity, language, and self expression.
Each month Zarmeena and I meet in person and every week we exchange emails. We talk about everything from colleges and homework to family and friendships. I've become her confidante for many things. And I love that she can always put a smile on my face with her sweet demeanor.
I look forward to our growing relationship over the next three years as she applies to college, finishes high school, and begins her freshman year in college. I want to ensure the iMentor program continues to match students like Zarmeena with supportive mentors. The program provides fantastic support to both mentors and schools. Please help me raise funds to continue iMentor's long reaching impact in IHSL and beyond.
