The Sociedad Protectora de Animales (S.P.A.) is a non-profit, no-kill shelter that seeks to provide loving homes for stray and abandoned cats and dogs in San Miguel de Allende. The S.P.A. has been operating here for over 30 years and is the area's only no-kill shelter run completely on donations. In addition to adoptions, the S.P.A. also provides medical care not only for animals in the shelter, but also for injured and sick animals that are brought in each week. Most of the time, the costs of treatments or surgeries for these animals are not recovered since they are either stray or their owners cannot afford the costs. Our daughter, Jessica, wanted for her 12th birthday to do something to help this wonderful organization. As an animal lover since birth and an aspiring veterinarian, she decided to set up "Jessica's Fund" which will send 100% of its proceeds to the S.P.A. to pay for medical expenses for animals in the shelter as well as any animal that is brought to the shelter for care.
