BENEFITING: Students Run America/Students Run L.A.
As a Leader of 34 students training for the L.A. marathon, I have worked to motivate and inspire them towards their completion of March 20th's pending marathon. Along the way, I've developed the "300 Mile Club". It is an award given in the form of a t-shirt that will feature the logo of the group so they can advertise to the student body that they have run 300 miles on the year so far. I'd ideally like to get them running shirts, but cotton will do fine too. My kids are getting their knees pounded and I just want to reward them a little more than the intrinsic reward of marathon completion. But I'm also a substitute teacher/not-yet-known actor and paying for the shirts is a little tough. I can do it, but a little love or help goes a long way. Any additional proceeds will allow me to outfit them with hydration belts and other apparatuses for the marathon itself. They already get shoes as part of their participation. Lastly, we will have a year end banquet and I'd like to do a nice meal for them. I work at John F. Kennedy High School in Granada Hills, CA. Our school is a Title I school and more than half of our students qualify for free meals and live in tough circumstances. The training with SRLA inspires many of our kids. The program has a 99% high school graduation rate in a state where the grad rate is closer to 66%. Thanks for the read and the support!
