In February of this year, I embarked on a challenge to more fully live my purpose and put my yoga practice and long-time study into concrete action and joined the Global Seva India 2012 Challenge in collaboration with Off the Mat Into the World. I am raising awareness and needed funds for women and children who are victims of human trafficking/sex trafficking. From the beginning, I knew that it would take me out of my comfort zone and give me opportunities to be of service, to develop my leadership skills and to practice being present in a very real way. I also knew that I could not do it alone. I was personally inspired by the possiblity of engaging others, my students, my friends and community to also step out and be a voice for the countless women and girls that are forced into slavery every day. We have raised over $10,000 and need to make the goal of $20,000 by Dec 31. If the goal is reached through our collective efforts, I will join others in a BARE WITNESS TOUR to India, participate in hands on projects and meet the women and children our efforts benefit. I will be able to share the stories of the people I meet and my personal journey in India. Thank you for helping me get there! (I'm kinda scared, but that is part of my personal challenge!)
Through compassionate collaboration, we have created an event called YogisforFreedom- a yogathon event being held in Pennington, NJ on Sun Dec 2. You may participate in the YFF Event by making a personal donation, sponsoring a team member, or becoming a team member yourself. When one of us is enslaved, we are all enslaved. When one of us is set free, we are all set free. We are all connected and this project demonstrates the interconnectedness of our lives. Thank you for reaching out and for caring. May we all know happiness, May we all know freedom!
