Why we ride.
February 22, 2016
When I first heard about the OK200 I was intrigued. I’ve been a cyclist for a long time, but the idea of riding 200 miles in one day sounded crazy to me. I heard they were raising money for human trafficking. I thought “Okay, but how big of a problem can that really be? Surely that stuff doesn’t happen here.” According to the U.N. there are between 27 and 30 million modern day slaves in the world, and it happens in America every single day. According to the Polaris Project there are 100,000 – 300,000 children prostituted in American. As crazy as those numbers sound they are often under reported as victims are often too scared to come forward. I’m riding this year to not only raise money but more importantly to raise awareness that human trafficking does happen and it happens right here in America.
