I will be running the New York City Marathon on November 4, 2012. I decided that since I am taking part in this amazing event, I should give a little back. That is why I am teaming up with the Queens College Library and Information Science Student Association to raise money for the New York Public Library correctional services program. The program goal is to, "get books into the hands of incarcerated New Yorkers and to provide inmates accurate information on useful community resources upon release."
One of the major projects librarians in this department take on is compiling a directory to prepare them for life after being released from prison, and how and where people can find employment once they are out of prison. Unfortunately, this department is not well funded, and with impending budget cuts, it will probably receive even less money. As a library science student, I feel it is extremely important for everyone to have access to books and information, and that the correctional services prgram provides a valuable service.

Please help me support this important division of NYPL. I hope to hear lots of cheering as I cross the finish line on November 4!
