EVENT: Haymakers For Hope Boston 2012
EVENT DATE: May 17, 2012
THE STORY:
I first learned about Haymakers for Hope last year through three friends that all fought in the event: Eric Engdahl, AJ Maroon and Dave Lovely. Eric suggested I get into the ring and join the cause; unfortunately, I got injured before the training started last year in 2011.
Fast forwarding to 2012, I have decided to step into the ring and do my part to fight against a disease that has taken three grandparents from my life at an early age; affected my friends and their families, as well as many others.
When I told my family and friends that I would be boxing in a charity event to raise money for cancer, some responded with, “Are you sure you really want to do that?” while others responded with, “What a great thing to do!”
After the months of training in the gym, the highs and lows that come with the dedication it takes to learn the skills, while protecting one’s self in the ring has helped me answer one question, “Why did I decide to do this?”
The simple answer, “I have more reasons to fight, than reasons not to fight.”
