Ainsley's Angels is thrilled to help ensure Jimmy can soon roll with the wind in his very own freedom push chair! With your generosity, we are certain this can happen soon. As the father of two very special girls that race together with me, I know that the positive energy surrounding the start line as we prepare to be included and "roll with the wind", and the normalcy of the family, is a therapy like no other.
Here is a note from Jimmy's mother:
Hi there, my name is Dolores. I learned of Ainsleys Angels through a good friend which led me here. Knowing that they are connected to the Hoyt Foundation is really neat too! My friend has encouraged me to get this going so we can do some runs with our kids, so here goes! I don't mind helping other's raise funds but have never done it for myself so I am a little nervous.
I started my walking/running journey for my own health and simply for fun just over a year and a half ago. I've since pushed my Son, Jimmy in a Mother's Day 10k run in Fresno, CA and had a near accident with his wheelchair when we were on our last stretch. I was about to run it in when I thought I was going to hit the smooth part of the curb and I didn't, we hit hard. With the impact I busted off a handle, Jimmy slid down just a bit and Im really thankful my Daughter Sabrina was with me to help me get us going again. I hurt myself a little too in our little 'crash'; Just glad he didn't fall out, that the chair didn't tip but most importantly that my Son didn't get hurt. I really need to get this chair so he can be safe in our walk/runs, his regular wheelchair isn't meant for these miles. I am glad to report that despite this incident, we were able to complete our 10k and I look forward to keeping this run as our special tradition and look forward to completing some other events with Jimmy.
James was born hydrocephalic, is legally blind, has cerebral palsy with a host of other medical issues. To be able to participate safely in some of these events with my Son would be more than awesome.
I look forward to the day I have his chair, these walk /runs are an outdoor activity we both enjoy. We both love the sunlight, fresh breezes on our face and just being outside in nature. I know Jimmy enjoys it, he can't speak to tell me but I can see it in his face. I am so ready to meet some of these goals with my Son.
Thank you all for your support, I can't thank you enough, it means the world to me and I know it it does to Jimmy too!
Much Love from Visalia, CA,
Dolores Burnett & Son, James Melo Jr.
