BENEFITING: HEBREW SENIORLIFE
EVENT DATE: May 29, 2016
Two of my passions--running marathons and providing spiritual care for seniors--are forever linked with Hebrew SeniorLife. As I was training for my first marathon in 2015, I began my chaplaincy training at HSL. At that time, I served as an intern on a Russian-speaking unit at Hebrew Rehabilitation Center (see the picture to the left, where I'm sitting with my friend Roza, who grew up in Ukraine). I continue to be indebted to HSL's Chaplaincy Institute Fund, which helped make my training possible.
A year later, as Rabbi and Chaplain at HSL's housing sites in Brookline, I strive to build a vibrant spiritual life for all our residents, regardless of religious and cultural background. Beyond Shabbat services, Jewish and Interfaith Learning, Memorial services, Holiday events, and other programming, I have the privilege of sitting with some remarkable people and helping them navigate the spiritual challenges they are facing as they get older. I also get to hear some amazing stories! Click here if you'd like to hear one of them...
This year, as I prepare to run the Vermont City Marathon in Burlington over the Memorial Day Weekend, I'm raising money for Hebrew SeniorLife's Clinical Pastoral Education Program. Your donation will make it possible for students from across the country and around the world to come to HSL for chaplaincy training, which includes providing pastoral care to about 1,000 seniors, families, and caregivers across HSL’s network. None of it would happen without donor support. For more information about CPE at Hebrew SeniorLife, please click here.
Spiritual care, of course, is only one facet of what Hebrew SeniorLife provides to elders in our communities. For more about the organization as a whole, please click here.
