Jim Smith Houston Band Tribute
Organized by: Marc Ramsey
We did it!!! See you May 28?
February 27, 2016
Over the course of 25 years, Mr. Smith built the Houston band program from scratch to become one of the premier programs in the Mid-South, if not the country. In the process, he made an incredible impact on the lives of thousands of students, a great many of whom consider him a formative influence on their lives.
We believe that his dedication to all of us should be recognized and remembered as an inspiration to those that follow. Please help us fund a bronze plaque with his likeness and a short tribute to be mounted in the band rehearsal room. The 12x16" plaque will feature a 6" bronze bas-relief portrait of Mr. Smith similar to that shown in the images. The text will read as follows:
James Russell Smith Rehearsal Hall
Jim Smith built this band. He cared truly and deeply about the music, the marching, and the championships, but above all, the kids. He taught respect, loyalty, and discipline, and sent thousands of graduates into the world with musicianship, confidence, and enthusiasm for excellence.
