Stuff About Me:

HELP US BRING THE HEROES PROJECT DOCUMENTARY TO A THEATER NEAR YOU

For the past 9 years, The Heroes Project has trained severely injured war veterans to climb the highest mountains in the world. On May 19th 2016, USMC SSGT Charlie Linville became the first combat-wounded veteran to reach the final summit, Mt. Everest.  Training our heroes both physically and emotionally to climb the highest summits in the world is how The Heroes Project fulfills its mission to support injured veterans who have sacrificed for our country.  THP expeditions challenge our nation’s heroes to explore the farthest reaches of themselves and the world they live in by redefining their personal limits post injury.  The Heroes Project inspires our injured military veterans to find purpose, both physically and mentally, and ignites others to do the same.

When we think of soldiers, we think of strong, brave, and fearless individuals. We envision skilled and able-bodied men and women who make huge sacrifices to defend our nation. However, the Veterans who return from war with grave injuries, face a truly unique emotional and physical challenge reconciling the soldier that joined the military with the one who returned. They look different. They move differently. They have long and difficult recoveries. They face inadequate, slow paced cookie cutter rehabilitation which is frequently poorly funded. Too often, they feel angry, sad, misunderstood, left behind, and frustrated. Too often, they feel helpless.

The Heroes Project helps combat the helplessness experienced by these soldiers by offering a healing and recovery program that embodies our injured veterans’ courage and commitment. Through social media and publicity, each vet’s climbing success reaches and inspires others every single day. In a bold move for that inspiration to reach an even larger audience,  production is under way for The Heroes Project Documentary. The documentary is scheduled for release in 2018 and covers the stories and global journeys of our veteran heroes. The documentary takes an in-depth look at The Heroes Project through the stories of our Heroes’ paths from injury, to climbing the summits of the world’s tallest peaks and the impact on their lives thereafter.

The Heroes Project, whose original goal of empowering severely wounded vets to redefine their personal limits through arduous physical and emotional training, one vet at a time, is taking the next step to impact a larger slice of humanity. The Heroes Project Documentary will open a window to the strength and commitment of our wounded vets. It will demonstrate how the physical demands and mental challenge of these technical climbs result in experiences that reignite passion in our war heroes and inspire others to lead bigger, more productive, and immeasurably more fulfilling lives.

The hundreds of hours of raw footage from our expeditions has begun to take shape as The Heroes Project Documentary. We are reaching out to our community to raise the remaining funds necessary to complete the project. As a foundation that works hard to raise the funds necessary to support the climbs we do each year, we have very little wiggle room in our budget to finalize the documentary. With your support, arm in arm with the Newman’s Own Holiday Challenge, we are confident that The Heroes Project’s story will be in theaters in 2018, inspiring all of us to live bigger and better as we watch our wounded heroes conquer every obstacle thrown their way.
