BENEFITING: CHILD NURTURE AND RELIEF INC
It has been more than two weeks since disastrous flooding submerged Indian-occupied Kashmir, but the people of Kashmir need our help now more than ever. Tens of thousands of people are still stranded in their homes, two million people are in need of clean water, over 700,000 people are homeless and winter is rapidly approaching.
Staying true to how it has historically treated Kashmir through its military occupation of the region and consistent pattern of egregious human rights abuses, the Indian government failed to deploy a coordinated rescue effort all the while using its propaganda machine to laud each piecemeal rescue made by the Indian Army (the same military force that has terrorized Kashmiris for years). To further complicate the situation, India has refused to solicit humanitarian assistance from the United Nations and international aid organizations, which stand ready to help and have offered their assistance. There have also been numerous reports of authorities obstructing the delivery of much-needed supplies, many of which are being held at the Srinagar airport.
Despite all odds, Kashmiris immediately took matters into their own hands by organizing ad hoc rescue missions and relief efforts. Kashmiri youth are wading flood waters to deliver vital supplies to neighbors and to identify dead bodies. Teams of volunteers have formed and are working to distribute food, water and medicine and to provide shelter for those who are homeless. There is an urgent need for supplies of all sorts and your donation will go directly to a local, Kashmiri organization CHINAR (Child Nurture and Relief) International (also registered in the US as a 501(c)(3)), which is hard at work on the ground. Anything will help so please donate, if you can.
